Victorian Easter Egg Ornament
MATERIALS:
White size 10 crochet cotton thread
Crochet hook size 6
Pastel plastic Easter egg
1/4" satin ribbon to match egg color
4-6 ribbon roses
Yarn needle
Hot glue
Long, thin nail
Candle
Preparation
Open egg. Hold tip of nail over candle flame to heat. Poke a hole through
the narrow end of the egg with the hot nail. Insert a loop of ribbon through
the hole to hang. Knot both ends of the ribbon inside the egg to secure.
Close egg.
Crocheted Egg Cover
Ch 4; join with a sl st to form ring.
Round 1: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, work 11 more dc in the ring; join
with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (12 dc)
Round 2: Ch 1, sc in the same st as joining, (ch 3, sc in the next dc) 11
times, ch 1, join with a hdc to the first sc to form the last loop. (12 ch-3
loops)
Round 3: Ch 1, sc in the same loop, (ch 4, sc in the next ch 3 loop) 11
times, ch 2, join with a hdc to the first sc for the last loop. (12 ch-4 loops)
Round 4: Ch 1, sc in the same loop, (ch 5, sc in the next ch 4 loop) 11
times, ch 2, join with a dc to the first sc for the last loop. (12 ch-5 loops)
Rounds 5-13: Ch 1, sc in the same loop, (ch 5, sc in the next ch 5 loop) 11
times, ch 2, join with a dc to the first sc for the last loop. (12 ch-5 loops)
Round 14: (Ruffle) Ch 7, sc in the 3rd ch from hook for picot, (trc, ch 3, sc
in the 3rd ch from hook for picot) 2 more times in same loop, (trc, ch 3, sc
in the 3rd ch from hook for picot) 5 times in each of the next 11 ch-5 loops,
(trc, ch 3, sc in the 3rd ch from hook for picot) 2 times in the beginning
ch-5 loop; join with a sl st to the 4 ch of the beginning ch 7. Fasten off.
Weave in ends.
Finishing
Insert egg into the crocheted egg cover. Thread yarn needle with ribbon;
weave in and out of the ch 5 loops on round 12. Pull ribbon tight to close
ruffle around the top of the egg and hanging loop. Knot ribbon and tie into a
bow. Trim ribbon ends. Arrange and hot glue ribbon roses around hanging loop.
