Crocheted Baby Layette Pattern

Sizes: Directions are written for birth to 3 months size with changes for 3 to 6 months in parentheses. Finished chest measurements are 19 (21)"

Materials: Sport-weight yarn Cuddlesoft(100% Acrilan Acrylic by Caron: Jacket, Bonnet and Booties: 3 skeins (5oz) White (MC); 1 skein (2oz) Lilac (CC). Crochet hooks, sizes F & G or size needed to obtain Gauge. 3 1/4 yards of 3/8" satin ribbon. Yarn needle.

Gauge: 20 sc and 23 rows = 4" with larger hook. To save time, take time to check your gauge.

Notes
Change colors as follows: In last st before changing to new color, work until 2 loops remain on hook. With new color, yarn over and draw through last 2 loops on hook. 

Special Stitches
Shell: (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same st.
Group: (sl st, ch 2, 2 dc) in same st. 
 

JACKET
Yoke
With larger hook and MC, loosely ch 64 (82).
Row 1: (RS) Dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 5 (8) chs, work shell in next ch, dc in next 13 (16) chs, work Shell in next ch, dc in next 18 (24) chs, work Shell in next ch, dc in next 13 (16) chs, work Shell in next ch, dc in last 7 (10) chs--74 (94) dc.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in first dc and in each dc across to first ch-2 sp, 3 sc in ch-2 sp, [sc in each dc across to next ch-2 sp, 3 sc in ch-2 sp] across, sc in each dc across.
Row 3: Ch 3, turn; dc in next sc and in each sc across to center sc of 3-sc group, [work Shell in center dc, dc in each sc across to next center dc of 3-sc group] across, dc in each sc across. 
Rows 4-9: Rep Rows 2 &3; three times--170 (188) dc.

Body
Row 1: Ch 1, turn; sc in first dc and in each dc across to ch-2 sp, sc in ch-2 sp, sk next 41 (44) dc (Armhole made), sc in next ch-2 sp, sc in each dc across to next ch-2 sp, sc in ch-2 sp, sk next 41 (44) dc (Armhole made), sc in next ch-2 sp, sc in each dc across--92 (104) sc.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn; dc in next sc and in each sc across, pull up a long lp so that the sts will not unravel and remove hook--92 (104) dc.

Row 3: Turn; with WS facing, join CC with sl st bet first 2 dc, ch 1, sc in same sp, [ch 2, sk next 3 dc, sc bet dc] across, pull up a long lp and remove hook.
Row 4: Do not turn;with WS still facing, insert hook in MC lp and adjust lp, sl st in end of first sc, ch 3, work 3 dc in each ch-2 sp across, dc in top of turning ch on row below, pull up a long lp and remove hook.
Row 5: Turn; with RS facing, insert hook in CC lp and adjust lp, ch 3, sc bet first 2 dc, [ch 2, sk next 3 dc, sc bet dc] across, pull up a long lp and remove hook.
Row 6: Do not turn;with RS still facing, insert hook in MC lp and adjust lp, sl st in end of first sc, ch 3, work 3 dc in each ch-2 sp across, dc in top of turning ch on row below, pull up a long lp and remove hook.
Rows 7-18 (22): Rep Rows 3-6 three (four) times. Fasten off.

Sleeve
Row 1: With RS of Jacket toward you, having WS of Armhole facing, and using larger size hook, join MC with sl st in first dc of Armhole, ch 1, sc in same st and in each dc across--41 (44) sc.
Row 2: (RS) Rep Row 2 of Body--41 (44) dc.
Rows 3-14 (18): Rep Rows 3-6 of Body 3 (4) times. Fasten off CC only.

Sleeve Ribbing
Row 1: With smaller hook, ch 8 loosely, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across--7 sc.
Row 2: (RS) Sk first 2 dc on Sleeve, sl st in next 2 dc, turn; sk sl sts, sc in back lp only of each sc across--7 sc.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn; sc in back lp only of each sc across. Rep Rows 2 & 3 across Sleeve, end last rep of Row 3 with sl st in top of turning ch. Fasten off. With RS tog, sew Sleeve seam. Rep for 2nd Sleeve.

Neck Edging
Row 1: (RS) With RS facing and larger hook, join MC with sl st in first ch of beg ch, ch 1, sc in same st and in next 6 (9) chs, sk next ch, sc in next 13 (16) chs, sk next ch, sc in next 18 (24) chs, sk next ch, sc in next 13 (16) chs, sk next ch, sc in last 7 (10) chs--58 (76) sc.

BOOTIES
With larger hook and MC, ch 9 (12) loosely; sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across--8 (11) sc.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 6 dc in end of last sc worked, dc in free lps of next 6 (9) sc, 7 dc in end of first sc worked, dc in next 6 (9) sc; join with sl st to first dc changing to CC, do not cut MC--26 (32) dc. 
Rnd 2: With CC, ch 1, sc bet turning ch and last dc worked, ch 2, [sc bet next 2 dc, ch 2] 7 times, [sk next 3 dc, sc bet dc, ch 2] 2 (3) times, [sc bet next 2 dc, ch 2] 7 times, [sk next 3 dc, sc bet dc, ch 2] 1 (2) times; join with sl st to first sc changing to MC--18 (20) ch-2 sps.
Rnd 3: Sl st in first ch-2 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, 3 dc in each ch-2 sp around; join with sl st to first dc changing to CC--54 (60) dc.
Rnd 4: With CC, ch 1, sc bet turning ch and last dc worked, ch 2, sk next 3 dc, [sc bet dc, ch 2, sk next 3 dc] around; join with sl st to first sc changing to MC--18 (20) ch-2 sps.

Rnds 5 & 6: Rep Rnds 3 and 4. 
Rnd 7: With MC, sl st in first ch-2 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, 3 dc in next 9 (10) ch-2 sps, 2 dc in next ch-2 sp, in next ch-2 sp work [yo twice, insert hook in sp and pull up a lp, (yo and draw through 2 lps on hook) twice] 3 times, yo and draw through all 4 lps on hook (dec made), work dec in next ch-2 sp, 2 dc in next ch-2 sp, 3 dc in last 4 (5) ch-2 sps; join with sl st to first dc changing to CC--48 (54) sts.
Rnd 8: With CC, ch 1, sc bet turning ch and last dc worked, ch 2, sk next 3 dc, (sc bet sts, ch 2, sk next 3 sts) around; join with sl st to first sc changing to MC-16 (18) ch-2 sps.
Rnd 9: With MC, sl st in first ch-2 sp, ch 1, 3 sc in same sp and in next 6 (7) ch-2 sps, 2 dc in next 2 ch-2 sps, dc in next ch-2 sp, work dec in each of next 2 ch-2 sps, dc in next ch-2 sp, 2 dc in next 2 ch-2 sps, 3 sc in last 1 (2) ch-2 sps; join with sl st to first sc, cut CC--36 (42) sts.
Rnd 10: Ch 1, sc in same st and in each st around; join with sl st to first sc--36 (42) sc.
Rnd 11: Ch 5, sk first 3 sc, (dc in next sc, ch 2, sk next 2 sc) around; join with sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch-5-12 (14) ch-2 sps.
Rnd 12: Ch 2, 2 dc in same st, work (sl st, ch 2, 2 dc) in each dc around; join with sl st in same st as joining.
Rnd 13: Sl st in first 2 chs and in first dc of group, ch 2, 2 dc in same st, work (sl st, ch 2, 2 dc) in first dc of each group around; join with sl st in same st as joining, fasten off. Weave ribbon through ch-2 sps on Rnd 11.

Bonnet Brim
Row 18 (22): With CC, work in dc pattern across.
Row 19 (23): With MC, work in ch-2 sp pattern across.
Rows 20 (24)-22 (26): Continue in same pattern. Fasten off.

Brim Edging
With WS of Bonnet facing, join MC with sl st bet first 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in same sp, [sk 3-dc group, work (sl st, ch 2, 2 dc) bet dc] across to last 2 dc, sl st bet last 2 dc; fasten off.

Neck Edging
Fold Brim matching the dc rows of Brim to the dc rows of Bonnet. With RS facing and working through end of both rows, join MC with sl st in end of first row, ch 2, 2 dc in same sp, work (sl st, ch 2, 2 dc) in end of each dc row across to Brim, working through end of both rows, work (sl st, ch 2, 2 dc) in end of next 2 rows, sl st in end of last 2 rows; fasten off. Sew ribbon to each side of Brim as shown in photo.
