large remnant of paper-backed fusible webbing
4"/10.2cm-square foam cube
fabric scissors

Directions

Cut six 4-1/2"/11.3-square pieces of terry cloth, leaving 1/4"/6mm seam allowance.

Appliques:

Print out this pattern and cut out.

Trace patterns onto paper side of fusible webbing.

Place fusible side down on wrong side of gingham and press, following manufacturer's instructions.

Cut out appliques; remove paper backings and press onto sides of block as pictured.

Assembly:

With wrong sides facing up, sew four squares into a strip using straight stitch. Sew ends of strip together to form a loop.

Start and end each seam 1/4"/6mm away from fabric edge, making sure not to sew into seam allowance.

Stitch missing panels into place, leaving one seam open.

Turn block right side out, then fit foam cube into cover and hand-stitch seam closed.
