Beehive Knitted Hat Pattern

Beehive Knitted Hat Pattern

The cuff can be worn down or up, the photo is down, but when it's up it's really cute.

Size:
To fit 14 - 18 inches (the pattern stitch makes the hat very stretchy).
If you want to make the hat bigger, use larger needles, or cast on extra stitches using a multiple of 8, plus 4 (to accommodate the 2 border stitches each side in the honeycomb stitch). To make taller, just work more repeats of the honeycomb stitch before switching to the stocking stitch for the fold. You will need extra yarn if you wish to make a larger size

1 skein of Caron Gold Sayelle acrylic worsted weight yarn in #1029, Medium Gold
Small amt. black waste yarn
Straight needles, size US 8

Bee Instructions:

Body
Leaving a 4-inch tail of black yarn, ch3 in black. Join to form a ring.

Work 6 single crochet (UK & Australian double crochet) into ring and join with a slip st to first sc worked.

Crochet another round around in black; change to yellow for two rounds, change to black again for a round, then one more round yellow. On the next, final yellow round, work as follows:

* pull loop through as is you were working a single crochet in the next 3 sts, (4 loops on hook), yarn round hook and pull through all 4 loops ** repeat from * to **, join to first double decrease worked with a slip st. Finish off, pulling two ends of black yarn so they stick out the end. Snip the black yarn still attached to the skein, and trim the black ends to form antennae. Insert the crochet hook into the body and pull in any unnecessary yarn ends.

Wings: Crochet a chain of about 18sts and end off. Make into a figure 8 and sew on bottom of bee (the side of the bee where you did your color changes on the rounds, which will look yukky.) Sew bee onto hat.

If you make this hat I hope you will also make something, anything, for charity. Thank you. Enjoy the pattern.
