Wagon Wheel Shawl Crochet Pattern

MATERIALS:
Any size hook, 3 or more colors of 4 ply worsted weight yarn.

DIRECTIONS:

Use WAGON WHEEL square pattern and half wagon wheel pattern (see below) to complete shawl.

WAGON WHEEL HALF SQUARE:



With first color, ch 8, join to form ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as a dc), 10 dc in ring; 11 dc; finish off. Do not turn, work in half rnds.

Rnd 2: Join same color between first 2 dc in prev rnd; ch 5 (counts as dc and ch-2 sp); (dc between next 2 dc, ch 2) 8 times; dc between last 2 dc: 9 ch-2 sps; finish off.

Rnd 3: Join same color in first ch-2 sp of prev rnd; ch 3 (counts as a dc), 2 dc in same sp; (ch 1, 3 dc in next sp) 8 times: 9, 3-dc groups; finish off.

Rnd 4: Join new color in 3rd ch of beg ch-3 of prev rnd; ch 5: half corner made; (sk next 3-dc group, sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 3) 3 times; ch 5, sc in next ch-1 sp: cornere made; (ch 3, sc between next pair of 3-dc groups) 3 times; ch 5, sl st in top of last dc of prev rnd: half corner made; finish off.

Rnd 5: Join same color in first ch-5 half-corner sp of last rnd; ch 3 (counts as dc), 4 dc in same sp: half corner made; (3 dc in next ch-3 sp) twice; in next ch-5 sp work (5dc, ch 2, 5 dc): corner made; (3 dc in next ch-3 sp) 3 times; 5 dc in last ch-5 half-corner sp: half corner made; finish off.

Rnd 6: Join black in 3rd ch of beg ch-3 of prev rnd; ch 4 (counts as trc), dc in same st: half-corner made; (dc in next dc) 18 times; in next ch-2 corner sp work (dc, trc, dc): corner made; (dc in next dc) 18 times; in next dc work (dc, trc): half-corner made; finish off and weave in ends.

FINISHING:
Number of squares needed depends on size of hook used. Picture shows shawl made with 36 squares and 9 half squares. Here is chart showing placement of squares and half squares for shawl.
