Construction:
We are using the fabric sides with the least pattern to give a striped effect. With wrong sides together (making an outside seam), sc through both ends of bottom and side panels together forming a "U." Then, sc front and back panels to side and bottom panels, working 2 sc at corners. Tuck in all ends.

Pick which side will be front of purse, attach yarn B at top edge of right side panel and sc on top of side, front, and side panel, to trim. Tuck in all ends.

Flap:
Using A, ch 31. Follow instructions for front and back panels, same width. End work. Using A, join to top of back panel by holding right sides together and sc across row, joining flap. End work.

Fringe ribbon backing piece: Using A, ch 20. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across now. End work. Cut about 18 inches of each ribbon and thread through yarn needle. Twist and insert in and out through front edge of flap. Trim ends and glue carefully in back. Insert ribbons around center row of flap and tie a double knot as shown. Trim ends.

Strap:
Strap measures 36 inches long. (If more length is desired add more ch stitches.) Using A, ch 140. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across row. Ch 1 and turn.

Row 2: Pick up yarn B, carry yarn A and sc across row. Ch 1, drop yarn B, but leave connected, and turn.

Row 3: With A, sc across row. End work. Tuck in all ends.

With B still attached, place one end of strap behind top of side panel about 1/2-inch down from top (right side of strap facing out.) Reach through with hook from outside and pull yarn through and slip st around strap end (about 4 or 5 sts), forming a pocket on outside. Continue to sc around edge of strap to other side, attach strap end in same manner. End work. Tuck in all ends.

Fringe:
Cut about 5 strands of beaded fringe on it's ribbon, apply glue to one side of ribbon and roll into a somewhat flat roll that will fit into pocket formed on outside of strap. Glue in place with ribbon being hidden in pocket and fringe hanging over. Thread about 5 inches of each ribbon in needle and thread through end above fringe and tie in a double knot. Trim ends to desired length, or as shown.

You can leave purse "soft side" or stiffen using plastic canvas cut to size and stitched together and fitted down inside purse. It can also be lined if desired.
