Pixie Hood Crocheted Hat Pattern

Materials List
Knitting worsted, 4 (1 ounce) balls of white;
bone crochet hook No. 5 and size G;
1 (75 yard) spool of gold metallic thread.

GAUGE: 5 sts (3 sc and 2 ch) make 1"; 5 rows make 1".

Starting at one narrow end of band, ch 15.

1st row: Sc in 3rd ch from hook, * ch 1, skip 1 ch, sc in next ch. Repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn.

2nd row: * Sc in next sp, ch 1. Repeat from * across, ending with sc in turning chain. Ch 2, turn. Repeat the 2nd row until piece measures 22". Break off.

HOOD: Measure off 7" in from one end of band and 4 1/2" from the other end and mark with pins. Attach yarn at first pin mark and work along the section marked off by pins as follows:

1st row: * Sc in next st, ch 1. Repeat from * across, increasing as necessary, until there are 40 sc between the pin marks. Ch 2, turn. Work in pattern as for band until 10 rows are completed. Drop white, with gold metallic thread work 2 rows in pattern. Break off. (Work 7 rows in white and 2 rows in gold) twice.

Now work 10 rows of white, leaving a long strand. Break off. Fold over in half and sew together the 2 halves of last row (top of hood)

ASCOT ENDS: Attach yarn to the narrow end of 7" band and work with size G hook as follows:

1st row: Draw loop out to measure 1", yarn over and draw loop through (thus making a loose ch st), insert hook between the double loop and single loop of this ch and draw loop through, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook (a knot st made). Make another knot st, make a loose half dc in same place as thread was attached. * Make a knot st, half dc in next sp. Repeat from * across. Make 2 knot sts, turn.

2nd row: Skip first half dc, * make a loose half dc in next half dc, make a knot st. Repeat from * across, ending with knot st, half dc in knot between 2 last knot sts. Make 2 knot sts, turn.

Repeat the 2nd row until knot st section measures 8". Break off. Attach gold metallic thread at beginning of last row, ch 3.

Next row: * 3 loose sc over double loop of next knot st, ch 3. Repeat from * across. Break off. Work over other end of band to correspond, making white knot st section, 10" long (instead of 8").
