SIZE: Adjustable headsize.
MATERIALS: Knitting worsted, 1 oz. each of
yellow (A)
green (B)
blue (C)
purple (D)
red or purple-red (E)
orange or melon (F)
Crochet hook size J.
GAUGE: 5 dc = 2" (double strand of yarn).
Note: Hat is worked with double strand of yarn throughout with colors in the order of the spectrum. Each color is used solid then combined with the next color. Hat can be started with any color.
HAT:
Beg at top of hat, with 2 strands of A, ch 4, sl st in first ch to form ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 11 dc in ring. Join each rnd with sl st in top of ch 3. Cut 1 strand of A. Join 1 strand of B.
Rnd 2: With AB, ch 3, dc in same ch with sl st, 2 dc in each dc around — 24 dc. Cut A. Join another strand of B.
Rnd 3: With BB, ch 3, 2 dc in next dc, * dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, repeat from * around - 36 dc. Cut 1 strand of B. Join 1 strand of C.
Rnd 4: With BC, ch 3, dc in each dc around. Cut B. Join another strand of C.
Rnd 5: With CC, ch 3, dc in same ch with sl st. * dc in each of next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, repeat from * around, end dc in each of last 2 dc - 48 dc. Cut 1 strand of C. Join 1 strand of D.
Rnd 6: With CD, work even -48 dc. Cut C. Join another strand of D.
Rnd 7: With DD, work even. Cut 1 strand of D. Join 1 strand of E.
Rnd 8: With DE, work even. Cut D. Join another strand of E.
Rnd 9: With EE, work even.
Rnd 10: With EE, sc in each dc around, working loosely or tightly for proper headsize.
Brim:
Rnd 11: With EE, * ch 4, sk 3 sc, sc in next sc, ch 3, sk 3 sc, sc in next sc, repeat from * around - 12 lps. Sl st in first ch. Cut 1 strand of E. Join 1 strand of F.
Rnd 12: With EF, ch 3, * 6 dc in next lp, dc in sc, repeat from * around. Cut E. Join another strand of F.
Rnd 13: With FF, ch 3, dc in each dc around. Cut 1 strand of F. Join 1 strand of A.
Rnd 14: With FA, ch 3, dc in each dc around. End off.
