Cap and Scarf Crochet Pattern
SIZE:
Scarf is approx. 6" wide by 74" long, including fringe.

GAUGE:
1 long sc and ch 2 = 1"
3 rows or rounds = 2"

MATERIALS:
Bear Brand or Fleisher's Gigantic, or Botany Colossal or Bear Brand, Fleisher's or Botany Machine Wasable Go-Go, (5) 2 oz. skeins
"Boye" Aluminum Hook, Size K (or size required to obtain gauge)

CAP:
Ch 4, join with a sl st in first st to form a ring.

Round 1: Insert hook in ring and draw up a loop, yo and draw through 1 loop, yo and draw through 2 loops--1 long sc made, * ch 1, work 1 long sc in ring as before; repeat from * 4 times, end ch 1, join with a sl st in top of first long sc; 6 long sc and 6 ch-1 spaces. Do not turn-all rounds are worked from right side. Mark end of each round.

Round 2: * 1 long sc and ch 1 in next ch-1 space, 1 long sc and ch 1 in same space; repeat from * 5 times more. Join with a sl st in top of first long sc; 12 ch-1 spaces.

Round 3: 1 long sc and ch 2 loosely in each ch-1 space of round below. Join with a sl st in top of first long sc; 12 ch-2 spaces.

Round 4: * 1 long sc and ch 2 in each of next 4 spaces, 1 long sc and ch 2 in same space as last long sc-an inc. made; repeat from * twice. Join as before; 15 ch-2 spaces.

Round 5: 1 long sc and ch 2 in each space. Join as before.

Round 6: Work as for round 4, increasing in every 5th instead of every 4th space; 18 spaces, join. Continue around working even in pat. for 6 more rounds, having 12 rounds--about 8 ins. from beg.

Round 13: * 1 sc in ch-2 space, 1 sc in long sc; repeat from * around, do not join; 36 sc.

Round 14: * 1 sc in each of next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * 3 times; 40 sc. Work 2 sc rounds even, end with sl st in last st. Fasten off.

SCARF:
Ch 14 loosely for lower edge to measure about 6-1/2 ins.

Row 1: Insert hook in 4th st from hook and draw up a loop, yo and draw through 1 loop, yo, draw through 2 loops--1 long sc made, * ch 2, skip 1 ch st, 1 long sc in next ch st, repeat from * to end; 6 ch-2 spaces.

Row 2: Ch 3, turn, 1 long sc in first ch-2 space, * ch 2, 1 long sc in next ch-2 space; repeat from *, end 1 long sc under turning ch; 6 ch-2 spaces.

Repeat row 2 until 98 rows from beg. Fasten off. Steam lightly.

FRINGE:
Wind yarn around a 7-in. cardboard. Cut at one end. Knot 7, 2-strand fringes evenly spaced on each end of scarf as illustrated. Trim fringe evenly.
