MATERIALS:
Patons Canadiana*, 100% Solutia acrylic, worsted weight yarn, 3.5-oz. skein: 13 skeins White (MC); 1 skein each of Purple (A) and Christmas Green (B); small amount of Yellow (C)
Crochet hook size 8/H (5 mm), or size to obtain gauge
Yarn needle
Sewing needle and thread to match yarns

GAUGE: In dc, 7 sts = 2"; 4 rows = 2"

SIZE: Each strip = 51/4" x 69"
Afghan = Approximately 58" x 69"

AFGHAN
Filet Strip: Make 11.
With MC, ch 20.
Row 1 (Wrong Side): Dc in 8th ch from hook; * ch 2, sk 2 sts, dc in next st; rep from * across; turn5 sps.
Row 2: Ch 5 (counts as first dc and sp), sk next ch-2 sp, dc in next 10 sts, ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc in next ch; turn.
Rows 3-6: Rep Row 2.
Row 7: Ch 5 (counts as first dc and sp), sk 2 ch, dc in next st; * ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc in next st; rep from * across, ending dc in 3rd ch of turning ch-5; turn5 sps.
Rep Rows 2-7 for pat until 17 squares have been completed, ending after Row 7. Fasten off.
Edging: With right side facing, join MC in sp to right of corner where yarn was fastened off.
Rnd 1 (Right Side): Ch 1, 2 sc in same sp as joining, [7 sc in corner sp, (3 sc in next sp) 3 times, 7 sc in corner sp, * 2 sc in next sp; rep from * across to next corner]; rep bet [ ] once more; join to beg sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in 4th sc of each 7-sc group at corner; join to beg sc. Fasten off.
Violet: Make 93.
With A, ch 4; join with sl st to first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1 (Right Side): * Ch 2, (2 dc, ch 2, sl st) in ring; rep from * 4 times more5 petals. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Leaf Cluster: Make 93.
With B, ch 4, join with sl st to first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1 (Right Side): * Ch 8, sl st in ring; rep from * twice more3 leaves. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

FINISHING
With needle and thread, sew one leaf cluster then one flower to center of alternating squares. Sew 9 flowers/leaves to 5 strips, beg and ending in end squares. Sew 8 flowers/leaves to 6 strips, beg and ending in 2nd squares from ends. Refer to photo.
Thread yarn needle with C. Work a French knot in center of each violet.
Assembly: With MC, sl st strips tog on wrong side, keeping violets in an alternating pattern.

STANDARD ABBREVIATIONS
