Berry Garland Crochet Afghan Pattern

MATERIALS:
Worsted-weight yarn Wintuk (100% Acrilan Acrylic, 213 yards per 3-1/2 oz/100g skein) by Caron: 8 skeins #3055 Light Grey (MC), 3 skeins each #3160 Dark Colonial Blue (Col A) and #3032 Rosewine (Col B)
Crochet hook size I-9/5.5mm or size needed to obtain Gauge.

Size: Finished measurements 46" x 66".

Gauge: 3 dc = 1"/2.5cm; Rows 1-3 = 2"/5cm. To save time, take time to check your gauge.

Note: Afghan is worked from side-to-side.

Special Abbreviation
PC: popcorn: Work 4 dc in same st, drop lp from hook, insert hook in first st of 4 dc group, pick up dropped lp, draw through st.

Here is a great video of how to do a popcorn stitch (the first method applies to this pattern). It uses the standard 5 dc so remember that the popcorn stitch in this pattern uses 4 dc.

Afghan
Row 1: With MC, ch 199. Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across, turn--197 dc.

Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), sk next st, dc in next st, *ch 1, sk next st, dc in next st; rep from * across, working last dc in top of turning ch, turn--99 dc, 98 ch-1 sps.

Row 3: Ch 3, *sk ch sp, dc in next dc, ch 1, working over dc just made, dc in skipped ch sp; rep from * across to last ch sp, dc in 3rd ch of beg ch-4, working over dc just made, dc in skipped ch sp. Do not turn; fasten off.

Row 4: Join Col A with a sc in top of turning ch (at beg of Row 3). *Ch 3, PC in side of last sc made, ch 1, sk next 3 sts, sc in next st; rep form * across. Do not turn; fasten off.

Row 5: Join MC with a sl st in first sc (at beg of Row 4), ch 3 (counts as dc), *ch 1, sc in 3rd ch of next ch-3, ch 1, dc in next sc at base of PC; rep from * across working last dc in last sc, turn.

Row 6: Ch 4, dc in next sc, *ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next sc; rep from * across ending ch1, dc in 3rd ch of beg ch-4, turn.

Row 7: Rep Row 3.

Row 8: With Col B, rep Row 4.

Row 9: With MC, rep Row 5.

Row 10: Rep Row 6.

Row 11: Rep Row 3.

Rows 12-79: Rep Rows 4-11 consecutively, ending after Row 7; fasten off.

Fringe
For each fringe, cut 6 strands, 18"/45.5cm long of color to match row. With all 6 strands held tog, fold in half. Insert hook through end of row and pull folded lp through, then bring ends through lp and tighten. Trim ends even. Work 1 fringe in end of each row across both sides of afghan.
