Christmas Penguin Ornament

MATERIALS:
Small amounts of black, white, green and red worsted wt. Yarn Pom-pom (white for top of hat)
2 Chenille pipe cleaners (1 red and 1 white) for candy cane
Tiny holly leaves
Beads, tiny pom-poms or tiny buttons for eyes
Small piece of yellow felt for beak
Size G, H or I Hook
Tacky Glue or glue gun

BODY
With black, chain 22 and work in back loops throughout.

Row 1: Sc in second chain from hook and in the next 6 stitches. (This will be the head end) Slip stitch in the next stitch. Sc in the remaining 13 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (21 stitches)

Row 2: Sc in each of the next 13 sc, slip stitch in the next sc and sc in remaining 7 sc. Chain 1, turn.

Row 3: Sc in each of the next 7 sc, slip stitch in the next sc and sc in the remaining 13 sc. Chain 1, turn.

Rows 4 through 18: Repeat rows 2 and 3. Finish off

BODY FRONT
With white, chain 22 and work through both loops throughout.

Row 1: Sc in each stitch across. Chain 1, turn. (21 stitches)

Row 2 through 6: Sc in each stitch across. Finish off.

Now sew the white piece to the black piece forming a cylinder. Gather bottom of body to close. Stuff lightly up to the slip stitches. Weave a length of yarn along the slip stitches (be sure to weave long the white piece also) and gather slightly for the neck. Continue stuffing the head lightly, then gather top to close.

HAT
With red, chain 12 and work through back loop throughout.

Row 1: Sc in second chain and in remaining stitches. Chain 1, turn. (11 sc)

Row 2: Sc in the 11 sc across , Chain 1, turn. (11 sc)

Rows 3 through 6: Repeat Row 2. Finish off leaving a length for sewing Gather top to close and sew piece together. Fold up a little cuff. Glue or sew on white pom-pom.

ARMS/WINGS (Make 2)
Row 1: With black, chain 2, 2 sc in second chain from hook, chain 1 and turn (2 sc).

Row 2: 2 sc in each sc, chain 1 and turn. (4 sc)

Row 3: Sc in each sc, chain 1 and turn. (4 sc)

Row 4: 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in last sc, Chain 1, turn. (6 sc)

Row 5: Sc in each sc, chain 1 and turn. (6 sc)

Row 6: Sc in every other sc. Finish off. Hide all ends.

SCARF
With green, chain 4, dc in first chain, chain 3 and turn.

1 dc in dc, chain 3, turn (2 dc). Repeat until piece measures about 10 inches. Finish off and tie around neck of penguin.

Attach arms/wings to side of body with glue or sew.

Glue or sew hat to top of head. Glue on eyes. Twist the pipe cleaners and bend in shape for candy cane. Cut to desired length. Glue to penguin just under the tip of one wing.

Cut a tiny oval shape (about 3/4") Fold in half and put a little glue near the fold to keep the beak closed slightly. Glue to penguin.

Add holly and berries to hat.
